Design Intent & Conceptual Approach
Initial ideas that shaped the project:
-
The challenge was to design an office space with a friendly, welcoming environment, where classic work units alternate with informal relaxation zones.
-
The space needed to function as a traditional office, but also accommodate meetings, small conferences, and workshops when needed.
-
Initial constraints and challenges:
-
Untouchable finishes on walls and floors (as the space is located in a historic building)
-
Visible cables and desktop units under workstations needing to be hidden
-
A limited budget
We designed a multifunctional workspace where computer work can alternate between seated and standing positions.
We proposed classic desks combined with integrated relaxation corners — armchairs, high tables with bar stools or standing options — for flexibility throughout the day.
The furniture is custom-designed using wood and metal frames to conceal technical components (cables, hardware) and also integrate practical elements such as built-in lighting, TV mounts, or equipment supports — all without altering the historic structure (no drilling into walls or ceilings).
Materials were selected in a neutral palette, always leaning into a “natural feel,” aligned with the client’s activity.
We used wood, white, black, exposed concrete, and added natural accents such as preserved moss panels, plants, grass pots, and even a treated indoor tree.
The space is composed of 3 rooms:
ROOM 1 – Entrance & Café Corner
This serves as a welcoming area with a cozy, café-like atmosphere.
Given the layout — with the main entrance and doors to both restrooms opening into this room — the design was spatially restrictive.
We included a bar counter with a built-in coffee machine and mini-fridge, complete with dedicated lighting.
A wood-framed alcove with a bench and table provides a semi-private seating area, both visually and functionally isolated from foot traffic.
ROOM 2 – Main Workspace (Open & Multifunctional)
Since the rooms are not physically divided by doors, the central space was organized through design-driven visual and functional zoning.
This main room is divided into 3 subzones:
-
Conference Area – marked visually by a rug and custom furniture.
A metal frame structure houses all necessary elements:
-
TV screen for presentations/workshops
-
Whiteboard & pinboard for brainstorming, meetings, and goal setting
-
Workstations & Relaxation Zone – work desks are alternated with a long bench running along the windows, offering a view of the Catholic Dome in Union Square (PiaÈ›a Unirii).
This bench also serves as storage space. -
Private Call Booth – a small soundproof glass pod designed for private calls, video meetings, or focused work.
It fits two armchairs and a small table.
The back wall of the glass cube features a stylized leaf motif — a creative reinterpretation of the left brain / right brain concept.
Inside, the furniture reflects this split: one armchair is colorful and expressive, the other minimal and calm.
ROOM 3 – Office Core
This is the most formal of the three, focused on dedicated work.
Classic workstations alternate with comfortable armchairs, and a library wall accommodates books, files, and archive storage.
